Joint Japanese and belgian DEVELOPMENT
Stainless steel magnetic drive centrifugal pump

Iwaki, a well-known supplier of fluororesin magnetic drive pumps, called on the Belgian company Packo for the development of a range of stainless steel magnetic drive pumps.

The YMD series of the Japanese supplier Iwaki, comprises of stainless steel magnetic drive pumps that have been jointly developed with Packo, a Belgian company known for it’s high level of technology in the field of stainless steel processing. The physical size of the pumps has been reduced and simplified by the use of powerful Neodymium-Boron-Ferrite and Samarium-Cobalt magnets. In total the series now consists of seven pumps models ranging from 1.1kW to 7.5kW. The two small sized models (up to 2.2kW), are manufactured from pressings which have screwed connections, while the five models (from 4kW and above), are manufactured from stainless steel castings with flanged connections.
Since both kinds of pumps are finished with electrolytic polishing, they can be used on a groad range of transfer applications for chemicals, medicines, and fine chemicals, including the transfer of various types of solvents.

Simple Design
One of the secrets behind a successful pump design, is the simplicity of its construction. The YMD pump has a compact design, with a minimum number of components and powerful Neodymium-Boron-Ferrite and Samarium-Cobalt magnets. This simplifies handling and, more importantly, maintenance. Because of its compactness, the pump is also well suited for building into other installations and equipments, such as ultrasonic cleaning cabinets, etc....
The front casing, manufactured from stainless steel casting, has flanges available in ISO. For the smaller models, the casing is based on 5mm thick stainless steel pressing, with BSP screw threads als standard for the pump connections. The rear casing is made of 1mm thick stainless steal sheet, and is designed to withstand a pressure of 10 bars. And another advantage from the maintenance point of view: since it is fitted to the split plate with screws,it can easily be detached without any need to disassemble the pumps itself.
The pump shaft, in the standard version manufactured from a composite (duplex) stainless steel, can optionally be replaced by chromium-oxide-coated 316 for the smaller models, but is standard for the larger ones. And, last but not least, the bearing is schrinkage-fitted into housing, which is screwed to a split plate. The different materials, carbon and SiC, are available for bearing.
